Healthy Direction
Frequently
Asked Questions
What times would the van be available?

Typically, the van is available from 9 a.m.-4:15 p.m. We arrive at a site by 8 a.m. to allow for setup time in order to begin screening patients at 9 a.m.

How often are appointments?

The appointments are scheduled every 15 minutes, with breaks and a lunch built into the schedule for our staff. This allows for a maximum of 25 mammograms per day.

What if we schedule 20 people but have some “no shows”?

Once we have at least 20 women signed up, we tend not to have a big issue with “no shows.” There will always be a few for the visit date, but that’s expected.

Is there any cost to the company, organization, or group hosting Healthy Direction?

There is no cost for Healthy Direction to visit a company, organization, or community group.

What would be the co-pay for insurance?

The insurance co-pays differ by policy type, so there is not a way for Memorial Hospital or The Breast Health Center of Excellence to determine that. However, we always recommend to our patients to call the customer service number on the back of their insurance card to find out the payment coverage for annual screening mammograms.

Can the van park anywhere or does it need access to electricity via the building?

The van requires seven parking spaces that are level and paved. It’s a pretty big RV-type van, so we need good wiggle room for entering and leaving.

How far in advance is the van booked?

Our schedule usually runs about 3-4 months in advance, so calling early is recommended.

Does the van provide preliminary results on site? Is a report sent to the patent’s doctor?

The mammography technologists perform the exam. At the end of the day, the mammogram films are interpreted by a radiologist at The Breast Health Center of Excellence. The results letter is sent directly to the patient and the primary care physician. If any further testing is needed, it would be noted on the letter and the patient will receive a phone call from The Breast Health Center of Excellence. Additional testing, if needed, will be performed at The Breast Health Center of Excellence in Belleville.
