Memorial Hospital in Belleville was granted unanimous approval by the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Planning Review Board (IHFSRB) on June 28 to build a 94-bed satellite hospital in Shiloh. Memorial Hospital – East, only the second new hospital to be approved by the state board in 20 years, will allow for all private bed patient rooms at both Belleville and Shiloh hospitals.
“We are very pleased and obviously excited with board’s decision to approve our application,” said Mark J. Turner, Memorial’s president and CEO. “We’ve been very honored and humbled by all of the support we’ve received from the community for this project.”
In early April, Memorial filed a Certificate of Need (CON) with the IHFSRB to build a satellite hospital on a 94-acre tract of land at Frank Scott Parkway and Cross Street in Shiloh. The state board received 27 letters of support for the Shiloh project for local and state elected officials, colleges and universities as well as physicians.
Memorial Hospital – East will include medical/surgical beds, obstetrics beds, ICU beds and cardiac catheterization services as well as an Emergency Department, a surgical suites and other diagnostic and treatment services to support both inpatient and outpatient care. Turner noted that expansion of services in that area has been part of our long-term plan.
“Memorial has a long-standing tradition of meeting the community’s needs,” Turner added. “That’s really what drives us.”
The planning stage for the $118 million project is expected to take 12 to 18 months with anticipated completion in 2016.
