​Memorial’s orthopedic nursing and Admission and Testing Center personnel have a specially designed orientation program for patients who are planning to have knee or hip replacement surgery. For your convenience, your orthopedic surgeon’s office will schedule your appointment for the program.
During our orientation program, the orthopedic nursing staff will review the following:
  • Getting ready for surgery
  • What to bring to the hospital
  • Types and uses of different post-operative equipment
  • Pain management
  • Physical therapy activities
  • Daily goals during your post-operative recovery
  • Prevention of blood clots
  • Fall Prevention Program
  • Leaving the hospital
  • Resources available to you
Following the class you will have an appointment in our Admission and Testing Center.
During this session, you will:
  • Meet with an anesthesiologist
  • Complete testing ordered by your physician
  • Review your health and medication history with the nursing staff
  • Receive information on preparing for surgery and what to do on the day of surgery
