Thanks to innovations like nerve blocks and less-invasive surgery, orthopedic surgery doesn’t have the pain implications it used to. You are an important part of the pain management team. Understanding the options for pain management and communicating with the team of surgeons and nurses will allow for excellent pain management and faster recovery.
After surgery you will spend some time in our recovery area and then be brought to your room on 1 South. You can expect the nursing staff to check on you frequently. Your safety and recovery is important to us, so we will remind you of our Fall Prevention Program. Our nursing and physical therapy team will assist you with turning and positioning, ambulation, and completing activities of daily living.
The nursing staff will be reviewing the information from our orthopedic pre-operative education class including cough and deep breathing, use of your incentive spirometer, pain management options, and prevention of blood clots.
