NANCY WESTON HONORED
BY SIUE SCHOOL OF NURSING
(Belleville, Illinois) Nancy Weston, vice president of nursing service at Memorial Hospital, recently was honored as the Outstanding SIUE School of Nursing Almuna at the Jewels of Nursing Excellence Gala.
The award is given to an SIUE School of Nursing alumna who graduated more than 10 years ago and who has made a significant contribution to the nursing profession through practice, research, administration, teaching or mentoring. Contributions made by the recipient should represent the SIUE values of citizenship, excellence, integrity, openness and wisdom. Nancy earned a BS in nursing from SIUE in 1977 and her MSN in 1993. Prior to joining Memorial in 2002, she served as vice president of nursing at Alton Memorial Hospital.
In the letter of support written by Memorial’s nursing department, Nancy is described as having enhanced the image of nursing throughout the organization through, “her pursuit of excellence, servant leadership style, tireless quality and patient safety initiatives, and interdisciplinary collaboration.”
Since coming to Memorial, she has implemented shared governance, created a Nursing Research Council and championed a Nurse Recognition Program. She has inspired nursing staff to pursue educational growth and demonstrates a commitment to the community by serving on the boards of the United Way and YMCA of Southwest Illinois. Nancy also was instrumental in leading Memorial’s Magnet Designation process and the Chest Pain Center accreditation team.
