Memorial Hospital Chooses Eight to Receive
Excellence in Nursing Awards

 

(Belleville, IL) Eight nurses were honored for their commitment to the profession of nursing during the 2009 Excellence in Nursing Awards held at Memorial Hospital on May 18. These awards were created to recognize contributions and achievements in nursing by individuals exemplifying the highest standards of nursing excellence, and to encourage growth in the nursing field.

As a Magnet recognized hospital, Memorial continually strives to improve quality in patient care and nursing services.  Nursing leadership, solid support of professional practice, continued competence of nursing personnel, strength in interdisciplinary practice and sense of community are all hallmarks that define Memorial’s commitment to excellence.

A total of 38 candidates were nominated by their peers for exhibiting extraordinary professionalism, compassion, teamwork and seeking the teaching role. Awards were given to Memorial employees in the following categories: Clinical Education/Preceptor - Linda Eisele-Hlubocky, RN of Edwardsville; Patient Advocacy - Joann Sugg, RN of Carlyle; Leadership - Cindy Wilson, RN of Belleville and Therese Krause, RN of Belleville; Advancing the Profession - Cathy Fenton, RN of Swansea; Clinical Research - Barb Masters, RN of Belleville; Clinical Excellence - Sandy Griesbaum, RN of Freeburg and Barb Bell, RN of Belleville.

Winners were chosen by a selection committee made up of the previous years’ winners and Memorial’s Chief Nursing Officer, Nancy Weston. Award recipients are eligible to receive an Excellence in Nursing Award every two years.
