Memorial Hospital Receives Breast Health Center of Excellence
Accreditation from American College of Radiology

(BELLEVILLE, IL) Memorial Hospital Breast Health Center is proud to announce that they have been designated by the American College of Radiology (ACR) as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, making it the only such designated facility in the metro east.
By awarding facilities the status of a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in all of the voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
"The Breast Health Center at Memorial is proud to be among an elite group of breast imaging centers that have achieved this designation,” said Dr. Alan Harris, director of the Breast Health Center and a member of Memorial’s Medical Staff. “After undergoing comprehensive and rigorous voluntary evaluations by the ACR, our patients can be assured that our staff and equipment are exceeding nationally recognized standards, and that we are delivering safe, accurate screening and diagnostic breast imaging services designed to specifically meet their needs."
The ACR awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted in mammography, breast ultrasound and stereotactic breast biopsy by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They have determined that Memorial has achieved high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs.
“It is an honor to be recognized by the American College of Radiology for our dedication in improving women’s health by participating in these rigorous quality assurance programs,” said Ruth Holmes, RN, vice president of diagnostic services at Memorial. “We are committed to providing exceptional care to all of our patients at Memorial’s Breast Health Center and are dedicated to achieving early diagnosis and optimal treatment.”
