Memorial Continues Diabetes Education and Support Group
(Belleville, IL) Memorial’s Center for Diabetes Education is promoting Diabetes Alert Day at its next Diabetes Support Group meeting on Monday, March 15 at 9 a.m. in the hospital auditorium. Participants will be encouraged to send a “wake-up call” to alert friends and families of the dangers associated with diabetes and persuade them to take the diabetes risk assessment.
The Center for Diabetes Education hosts support group meetings in the hospital auditorium on the fourth Monday of the month. This month the meeting was moved ahead for scheduling reasons. Guest speakers are often invited and a wide range of topics are discussed, including heart-healthy eating, overall wellness, foot care, eye health, proper measuring techniques, exercise and other assorted activities that create a fun and active learning environment – not just a lecture setting. It is open to the public, free and no physician referral is required.
Memorial’s diabetes self-management training program is the only one in the metro-east area that is certified and recognized by the American Diabetes Association and led by Certified Diabetes Educators (CDE).
For more information on the Center for Diabetes Education and the Diabetes Support Group at Memorial, contact Angela Weeks, RN, LDN, CDE at 618-257-4227.
