Health Screenings

Health Screenings

Extending our commitment throughout the area

Memorial Hospital provides an array of health screenings to area communities, businesses, churches, and community organizations in an effort to extend Memorial’s commitment to providing exceptional healthcare and compassionate service.

Many of these services are free of charge. Please contact Memorial’s Outreach Coordinator at (618) 257-5765 to schedule your event.

Prostate specific antigen (PSA)

The PSA screening is a blood draw for men. It determines the level of a specific protein (produced by the prostate) that may indicate the presence of cancer. There is a $10 fee per patient for this service. Results are sent to the patient and their physician (if name is provided) within one week. Memorial Hospital will provide your organization with a schedule sheet and marketing materials. A minimum of 10 appointments is required for each day.

Lipid panels

A lipid panel is a blood draw that determines a patient’s total cholesterol (HDL and LDL) and triglyceride levels. Patients must fast for 12 hours before the blood draw. There is a $20 fee per patient for this service. A blood glucose test can also be added for a $10 fee. Results are sent to the patient within one week. Memorial Hospital will provide your organization with a schedule sheet and marketing materials.

NOTE: For our safety and the safety of the participants, we do not accept money on location. Payments will be collected before the event if individual patients are paying. If your organization is responsible for the charges, a bill will be sent to your organization after the event.

Free services

  • Blood pressure is the combination of your systolic (maximum pressure in blood vessels when heart pumps) and diastolic (minimum pressure when heart relaxes between beats) pressures. The ideal blood pressure is 120/80 (systolic/diastolic).
  • Cholesterol/blood sugar. Cholesterol is a substance found in the blood, which in large amounts may lead to coronary artery disease and/or other diseases. Blood sugar is the quantity of glucose in the blood.
  • Body fat analysis/BMI determines the percentage of fat (and actual pounds of fat) a person carries in their body.
  • Bone density determines bone strength. This is a painless screening that helps diagnose osteoporosis by comparing a patient’s bone quality with that of a young adult at peak bone strength.
  • Forced vital capacity is a screening that determines lung capacities.
  • Pulse oximetry determines the oxygen saturation in the blood. This is a non-invasive procedure taken through the finger of the patient.
  • Colorectal screenings are performed by a nurse who asks a patient to complete a series of questions. The nurse will evaluate the answers and provide consultation based on the results of the questionnaire.

Other services may be requested if they meet criteria of portability, safety, and cost. For more information, please contact Memorial’s Outreach Coordinator at (618) 257-5765.

NOTE: Services are subject to availability. Please call to request services, and the Outreach Coordinator will confirm the availability of each service.
